Part Two Chapter 8 (Page 44)

Anyone who has kept a saltwater aquarium knows that it is not an easy hobby.  The saltwater aquarium is a mini ocean.  The water must be kept in perfect balance for the fish to remain healthy.  Constant water changes are necessary and a balance of inches of fish to gallons of water must not be exceeded or the buildup of harmful levels of toxic chemicals such as ammonia and nitrates will result.  In my tank I kept a fish called an Undulating Trigger.  Anyone who knows saltwater fish knows that the Undulating Trigger is the most aggressive aquarium kept fish.  It will attack almost any other fish introduced into the tank.

My children appropriately named him trigger.  Trigger had eaten every other fish we put into the tank with him with the exception of two spotted damsel fish who were almost equally aggressive.  At one point we decided to try again and purchase some additional fish and so purchased 6 additional damsels of different varieties.

Within the first 2 days 3 of the fish were eaten.  And those that remained of the new ones were being harassed incessantly by the others.   In a few more days only two of the six new fish were left as they had found hiding spots among the coral and the rocks in the aquarium.

Several weeks later we tried again and again purchased 6 additional damsel fish of different varieties.  Again 2 were eaten instantly and the other harassed by the veterans of the tank including the two survivors of the previous addition.  It was at this point that I taped the Japanese Kanji characters for Pure/Clear and Peaceful on the tank.  What I saw next almost made me laugh, as soon as I taped the characters onto the tank all of the fish swam up and looked at them; first on one side of the tank where I taped the characters for pure and clear, and then on the other side of the tank where I taped the characters for peaceful.
