Part One Chapter 5 (Page 25)

Every powerful phenomenon in nature has its dark side and resonance is no exception. Extreme, resonance causes things to break catastrophically. For example, when an opera singer with a very loud voice hits the right frequency, she can cause a champagne glass to resonate and break.

On the morning of November 7, 1940, the four-month-old Tacoma Narrows Bridge began to oscillate dangerously up and down. A reporter drove out on the bridge with his cocker spaniel in the car. The bridge was heaving so violently that he had to abandon his car and crawl back to safety on his hands and knees.  At about 11:00 the bridge tore itself apart and collapsed. It had been designed for winds of 120 mph and yet a wind of only 42 mph caused it to collapse. How could this happen? No one knows exactly why. However, the experts do agree that somehow the wind caused the bridge to resonate. It was a shocking calamity although the only loss of life was the dog.

These examples illustrate how resonance can work against you.  We all know people, maybe even intimately, that are wonderful human beings, until they get around the wrong folks.  As soon as they are in with the wrong crowd, they start exhibiting negative behavior, they smoke, or drink, or even start taking drugs.  The bottom line is that the people we let into our lives can end up having a major influence on us.  For this reason, it is important that we spend as much time as possible with positive, goal oriented, and successful people.  At times in my own life there have been friends and partners whom I have had to let go, because of their negative influence over me.  And there have been people whom I have sought out because I wanted some of what they had to rub off on me.  If you want to be more spiritual spend time with spiritual people, if you want to be successful financially, spend time with financially successful people, if you want to be happy, healthy and in great shape then spend time with happy healthy people.  Study them, find out what they do, figure out how what makes them the way they are.  How do they view the world, how do they view themselves, how do they think about working out, how do they think about food?  In NLP this is called Modeling.  The concept in a nutshell is if we do the exact same things that successful people do in the exact same ways, we will get the same results.

If you are receptive just being around the right people, spending time in their presence, interacting with them allows the phenomena of resonance to work in your favor.  Just like the tuning fork you will begin to vibrate at the same frequency as the people you are around gaining their magnetism.
